We’ll call it the Wake Me Up When September Ends contest ok? Because September is on the verge and for the past five years this has meant being reminded of a painful divorce, being cynical, cranky, wanting to smack every hand-holding couple upside their heads, and just generally getting in my own way, which I’m really good at.
It’s more than past time that I got on with my life and as Edwin McCain calls it, opened up the sweetshop again. I really need your help to do that though.
One of my favorite books lately has been this entertaining little Dictionary of Failed Relationships. It’s 26 tales, from A-Z of love gone wrong. I’m going to spoil it and tell you that the last short story in the book is love gone, yes, miraculously RIGHT. Imagine that! I’d like to get me some of that.
So here’s how you can help. Dig up your inner hopeless romantic and remind me of what’s great about being in love so I can shut up the crusty old hermit voice in my head who’s so down on love. (Not that I’d ever give up hermitude completely, of course, everyone needs some of that too.)
Leave your reminders in the comments on this post. Start with A and you know the drill, on through Z. OK? How hard can it be right? If we make it to Z just start over and go as many times, as far as we can, until midnight on the last day of September.
Then I’ll pick my favorite one, and another random out-of-the-hat one, to each win a fabulous prize: a CD mix of songs about love from A-Z, and some pretty yarn from my stash. And whatever else I can find that seems good, chocolate, tea, something specific to the winner, whatever.
Ok? Ready. Set. Go!
Woo! This is going to be a sweet September. *grin* And now I’m off to spend as much of the long Labor Day weekend as is humanly possible lying by the pool with a beer. Cheers!

Ally – It’s nice to have one in this world. Someone you can count out to have your back when the chips are down. Someone who will always take your side.

Best friend – See also Ally. If you’re not in love with your Best friend (who can be someone who becomes your Best friend), I don’t think there’s much future.

Guacamole–the perfect representation of love, soft gooey, and delicious. It can turn brown on top, but deep down it’s still wonderful and green.

Health – you’ve got somebody to look after you when you’re ill, and it seems like I’m always reading articles about how people in relationships live longer and healthier lives.

Kissing- you can’t do that alone. That last kiss of the day, before falling asleep. It stays on your lips and gets you through the night.
Or, that first kiss you get after being away from each other. Not much things sweeter than that.

Touching – not groping, pawing or massaging. Just a little touch. Just because he’s there. On the hand or arm or cheek. Just to make a small physical connection.

Having that moment when you know someone so well that you look at them, and you know exactly what they’re thinking and how they’re feeling, and you just sqeeze that person’s hand to let them know that you know. It’s pure and very very real.
*hug* Good luck lovey

D – doubled up emotions, when your heart is so full that you feel everything twice as much as you normally do, and you are so in tune with your mate that you also seem to feel everything that they feel as well. It’s like riding a roller coaster that’s going twice as fast as normal — exhilarating and scary at the same time.

Falling down–and having someone to help you get back up again, a someone who knows whether to laugh with you about it or not. And who knows when you need a band-aid and a kiss to make it all better.
